Jesus Himself will do whatever we decree in His name
When we make a decree in Jesus' name, Jesus said that He will do it.
He will do it so that the Father in heaven may receive glory through the Son.
This is the honour and privilege given to all believers to work together with our Lord and Master to build His Kingdom on this earth.
We decree, He performs it, and the Father receives the glory.
1. All authority in heaven and earth has been given to Jesus.
When Jesus rose from the dead, He was given all authority in heaven and on earth by the Father.
This is the authority to rule over all creation, over all spiritual and human powers, and over all forces of nature.
Matthew 28:18
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me."
2. All believers in Jesus have been given the right to use the authority of Jesus to rule on this earth by making decrees in His name.
The name of Jesus represents all His power and authority.
And all believers of Jesus have been given the right to use the authority of Jesus by making decrees in His name.
When Jesus sent His disciples to go to the nations and preach the Good News, and to make disciples of all nations, it meant that He has sent them to go forth in His name to do His work.
Because they have been sent by Jesus, they have been authorized to use the name of Jesus to rule on this earth.
Matthew 20:18-20
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
Mark 16:15-18
15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on people who are ill, and they will get well."
3. Jesus Himself will do whatever we decree in His name.
When we pray to the Father in Jesus' name, the Father will hear us and answer us.
John 16:23
23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.
However, when we make a decree in Jesus' name, Jesus Himself will do it for us.
Jesus is watching over the decrees we make in His name to perform them in our life and ministry.
This is what Jesus promised in John 14:13-14.
John 14:13-14 KJV
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask [Greek AITEO] in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask [Greek AITEO] any thing in my name, I will do it.
The word "ask" in verses 13 and 14 of John 14 comes from the Greek word "AITEO."
Besides being translated as "ask," this word "AITEO" can also be translated as "demand" in English.
This translation can be found in many Greek lexicons and dictionaries, as follows:
1. ask, beg
2. ask for, demand
Exegetical Dictionary of the New Testament
" Aiteo: ask for, demand…"
It is obvious that we do not demand our Father God to do anything for us.
When we pray to Father God, we always ask Him and we do not make demands of Him.
And when we ask Him in prayer for anything, Abba Father Himself will answer us.
Here, the word demand is to "command a part of creation to submit to the will of God."
It is to make a decree.
And when we make a decree or make a demand in Jesus' name, Jesus Himself will do it for us.
Thus we can translate John 14:13-14 as follows:
John 14:13-14 KJV
13 And whatsoever ye shall demand [Greek AITEO = make a decree] in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall demand [Greek AITEO ] any thing in my name, I will do it.
The translation of the Greek word "AITEO" with the word "demand" agrees with the authority given my Jesus to His disciples to cast out demons in His name, and to do miracles in His name.
In other words, Jesus is saying as follows:
"In my name, you can demand a demon to leave, and it will have to go."
"In my name, you can demand the mountain to move, and it will obey you."
Mark 16:15-18
15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons."
Mark 11:23
23 ‘Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, “Go, throw yourself into the sea,” and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.
4. When miracles take place as God's children make decrees in the name of Jesus, the Father receives glory through the Son.
When we make decrees and rule in Jesus' name, God's kingdom is established on earth.
And men will see the miracles and power of God and give glory to Him.
John 14:12-13 KJV
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall "demand" in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Matthew 5:16 KJV
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
