NOTE:
Thanks to Cynthia (Pearson) Du Four for the following information: William was buried on his farm in Audrain Co, MO. Cindy, after receiving a newspaper article about the death of William's daughter, Sarah DeJarnett, has indicated that this proves that William was the brother of her ggg-grandfather, Judge John Andrew Pearson, and his brother, Joseph Pearson. Speculation about the relationship of the three brothers has been a family puzzle for many years - mystery now solved!
Rufus Pearson was the son of John Andrew.

OLD CHURCH TO BE RAZED
STANDS OVER THE LINE IN CALLAWAY COUNTY
One of The Early Established Churches in Central Missouri
Old Liberty Christian church, one of the early established churches of that denomination in Central Missouri, southeast of Benton City, over the line in the Kingdom of Callaway, built 40 years ago, is soon to be torn down and a new concrete edifice 32X24 feet, will be erected in its stead. More than $3,000 has been subscribed for the new building. On a recent Sunday an old-time love feast and big dinner was held at the church as a farewell to the old structure. Eld. Dameron, of Centralia, preached a stirring address on the occasion.
Liberty church was organized the third Sunday in August 1839. The ten charter members were Barbara Collins, Martha Collins, John T. Dillard, Wm. Pearson, Isabella Pearson, Richard Pearson, Mary Hall, Polly read, Wm. R. Douglass and Lucy Douglass. ...
The first church house, erected in 1839 in Audrain county, about three miles northwest of the present site, was of hewd logs and during the first few years the building was heated by a large open fire-place. About 1853 a carpenter named W.O. Austin built the second house, a frame, on the present church site. This building was used about twenty years, and was followed by the house soon to be sold, which was erected by Douglass & Thompson. At the time the third house was built, in 1873, the congregation numbered about 170 persons. ... ."

The honorific Reverend originally attached to this profile seems to be incorrect and has been removed. It appears to come from "Ancestors of Benjamin Pearson" by George M. Pearson where after discussing this Enoch Pearson who is known to have died not later than 1749, he immediately jumps to a discussion of another Enoch Pearson (the son?) who is recorded as a traveling minister in 1754 Hopewell Monthly Meeting records, five years after this Enoch's death.
It is frequently read that he married in 1719 outside the approval of the church and then wrote an apology in 1720. This story appears in the Pearson Family History by Ralph E Pearson which is being repeated from an earlier source (believe to be "Ancestors of Benjamin Pearson" by George M. Pearson). However, Enoch's marriage intention is recorded at least three different times in two different Monthly Meeting records in 1712. It would seem that the story would apply to a different Enoch Pearson of which there are many. Or, it is possible the story is true and that Mary Smith and Margaret Smith are two entirely different people who married different men named Enoch Pearson.
It may be read that he changed the spelling of his name to Enock. This is nowhere documented.

About Thomas Pearson
Thomas Pearson Sr. was a part of William Penn's Pennsylvania Settlers community.
Biography
Thomas Pierson is believed to have been born about 1653 in Pownall Fee, Cheshire, England. He married Margery Smith in 1683.[1][2] Both marriage records show his wife's name as simply Margery Smith, the additional name Ellen is not found. Ellen was the name of Margery's mother. From the second marriage citation we also learn that Thomas is a mason and that the marriage occurred in the house of Thomas Janney.
Thomas and Margery sailed from Liverpool to the Delaware River on the ship Endeavor, under master George Thorp, with his brother John and Margery's sister Mary landing 29 Jul 1683.[3] Some genealogies state Thomas came to the Pennsylvannia Colony with William Penn on the Welcome and that five years later he was joined by other members of his family. Known dates do not align for that particular suggestion. Ralph Pearson[4] makes the argument that the Thomas Pearson William Penn refers to as his friend is this Thomas Pearson and that Chester County was named at the request of Thomas Pearson. This would indicate that Thomas had made a trip to Pennsylvania prior to bringing his family in 1683 (we know that his brother had probably made an earlier trip in 1681 due to property records although the purchase might not have been made in person).
Thomas bought the following tracts of land in what was then Chester County, Pa. It is now in Delaware County. It is probable that Thomas first moved on to the land which his brother, John, bought from William Penn in 1681. On 29 Dec 1697 he bought 300 acres of land. It adjoins the lot on which the Springfield meeting house stands. On 28 Feb 1703 he bought 250 acres from his brother John. This was the tract John bought from William Penn in 1681. On 12 Apr 1703 he bought another tract of 300 acres north of the second tract. Later Thomas and Margery deeded this tract to their oldest son Robert. On 20 Jan 1723 he bought a tract of 50 acres lying between the first and second tracts. This made a farm of 900 acres. In 1731 he and Margery deeded, to their oldest son Robert, 300 acres of land being a part of the first, second and fourth tracts of land which he bought.[5][6]
Thomas Pearson was Supervisor of Highways in 1684, Member of Council in 1687, in 1690 was one of those tasked with receiving subscriptions for the new meeting house in Chester, and member of Assembly in 1708.[7]
Thomas Pearson died in 1734. His Will was written 16 Oct 1730 and filed 24 Mar 1734.[8] Thomas left his Estate as follows: "to son John £15. To son in law John West and my daughter Sarah his wife £10. To son in law Nicholas Rogers and my daughter Mary his wife £15. To son in law Peter Thompson and my daughter Margery his wife £15. To son Robert £10 of the money owing by him to me. To 4 sons, viz Robert, Lawrence, Enoch and Abel 5 shillings each. Remainder real and personal estate to wife Margery."[9] He nominated Bartholomew Coppock, and Saml. Levis, Jr. as his Executors.
Research notes
Another Thomas Pierson (who married Rose) was the father of two girls, Susannah (1691-1765) and Rose (1693-1771). A profile for another Susannah (1697-1756), periodically gets attached to him or his wife, but she is more likely a daughter of this Thomas.
There were two Thomas Pearson (Pierson) families in Chester County, Pennsylvania. A great deal of information has been generated on both and frequently mixed together. One lived in Marple Township (son of Lawrence and Elizabeth Janney Pearson, married Margery Smith and a mason) while the other lived in Caln Township (unsure about parentage, married Rose Dixon and a surveyor).
The Bulletin of Friends Historical Association published an extensive article about Thomas and Margery Pearson's daughter, Sarah (Pearson) West, entitled Benjamin West's Mother, Sarah Pearson, and Her Family. It includes extensive information regarding Thomas Pearson, Margery Smith and their parents and other family members. [13]

Pearson History, Family Crest & Coats of Arms
The ancestors of the Pearson family first reached the shores of England in the wave of migration after the Norman Conquest of 1066. Their name is derived from the French given name Pierre, which is equivalent to the English Peter.
Name Meaning
English: patronymic from the Middle English personal name Piers ( see Pierce ). The surname is also quite common in Ireland, where it has been established for many centuries.2 Americanized form of one or more like-sounding Ashkenazic Jewish surnames.
Early Origins of the Pearson Family
The surname Pearson was first found in Berwickshire where the name was derived as "son of Pier." Walter Pierson of Berwickshire rendered homage to King Edward I of England on his brief conquest of Scotland in 1296. However, some of the family were found at early times in Lancashire, specifically at the township of Shevington where "Crook Hall was the seat of the Pearsons."
Pearson Spelling Variations
Norman surnames are characterized by a multitude of spelling variations. The frequent changes in surnames are largely due to the fact that the Old and Middle English languages lacked definite spelling rules. The introduction of Norman French to England, as well as the official court languages of Latin and French, also had pronounced influences on the spelling of surnames. Since medieval scribes and church officials recorded names as they sounded, rather than adhering to any specific spelling rules, it was common to find the same individual referred to with different spellings. The name has been spelled Pearson, Peerson, Pierson, Peirson and others.
