About George Sutton
George Sutton migrated to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1620-1640).
George Sutton sailed to Boston, Massachusetts on the ship, Hercules in 1634.
He married Sarah Tilden in 1636. Sarah was the daughter of Elder Nathaniel Tilden.
George went to Perquimans County, North Carolina, British Colonial America, in 1668.
More about George Sutton
George Sutton sailed on the ship, Hercules, in 1634 from Sandwich, Kent, England. He was a servant in the party of Nathaniel Tilden of Tenterden, Kent, England. Within two years of settling in Scituate, MA he married Sarah, d/o Nathaniel Tilden. About 1668, after the Plymouth Colony enacted penal laws against the Quakers, George Sutton emigrated to North Carolina with most of his family to escape religious persecution. He died in what is now Perquimans Co., NC within a year of leaving MA.
His family's association with the Quaker religion tends to reinforce the belief that Daniel Sutton, of Burlington Co., NJ, and William Sutton, who was an influential Quaker in Woodbridge/Piscataway, NJ, are his sons. Both had emigrated from MA at about the same time as the others moved to NC.

William Sutton first appears at Barnstable, on Cape Cod, where, on 5 June 1666, he was haled into court and fined for purloining the Bible from the meeting house, "one pound and for telling a lye about the same, ten shillings." His departure from the town was probably expedited by these occurences, and a few weeks later, at the neighboring settlement of Eastham, he took refuge in matrimony with Damaris Bishop. They had ten children, the first three born in Eastham, and the rest born in Piscataway. (New England Historic Genealogical Register, Volume 91, January 1937) williamsburgprivatetours.com
