He was reported as being 5', 4" tall with a fair complexion, auburn hair and blue eyes. He had previous military service with the Mounted .... Troop in Pahiatua. His next of kin was Mr Thomas Mexted (father), Pahiatua.

He was in hospital in Cairo, Egypt from 8 October to 5 December 1918 being treated for malaria.

He served a total of 1 year 333 days, of which 1 year 81 days was served overseas. He was discharged on 11 April 1919, no longer being physically fit for war service on account of illness (malaria) contracted during active service.
