MONIGATTI, Alexander Augustus Dominick

Son of Isabella Moore & Giovanni ("John") Monigatti

World War I, 1914-1918

Apia, Samoa (1918-1919)
Alexander had enlisted twice previously but each time been discharged due to health issues.
He enlisted for the third time on 26 July 1918 at Nelson, aged 21 years. He was recorded as being 5', 10" tall with a dark complexion, dark hair and brown eyes. Note remarked he was fit for service in Samoa. He had previous military service with the 12th Regiment territorials. He had served with the mobilisation service May-September 1915. His last address was 10 New Street, Nelson. His next of kin was Mrs Isabella Monigatti (mother), 10 New Street, Nelson.
He was promoted to lance corporal on 25 August 1918.
In Apia, Samoa he went before a miliary court in May 1919 when he was accused of knocking down a "native". It would appear the Samoan man had been making a nuisance of himself and Alexander had been attempting to stop the Samoan hitting another soldier.
His total service was 2 years 5 days, of which 1 year 18 days was spent serving overseas. He was finally discharged on 8 October 1918.
