Mark enlisted on 12 March 1917 at Wellington, aged 21 years. He was recorded as being 5', 6½" tall with a fair complexion, fair hair and blue eyes. His last address was Whites Line, Lower Hutt, Wellington. His next of kin was Mrs A Clement (mother), Korokoro, Petone (Wellington).

He was killed in action on 20 October 1917 in Belgium.
