Peter enlisted on 13 October 1914 at Wellington, aged 27 years. He was recorded as being 5', 7½" tall with a fair complexion, light hair and blue eyes. He had previous military service with the J Battery (2 years) No 8 GA. His last address was Palmerston Street, Westport (Buller). His next of kin was John Monigatti, Cape Foulwind, Westport. He was promoted to sergeant on 4 December 1916.
