SP. 5 Larry A. Flood, 22, son of Mr. And Mrs. Angus Flood of Humbird, and other members of the 317th Engineer Battalion were commended September 12 by Lt. Col. N. C. Manitsas, battalion commander, for their work in constructing a float bridge across the Rhine River in Germany.
Approximately 1,00 feet in length, the standard float bridge was completed by the unit within the specific time limit. Crossing of the Rhine river today is still considered a major accomplishment because it is a serious obstacle for movement of ground forces in Europe.
Specialist Flood entered the army in December 1962, arrived overseas in May 1963, and is a supervisor in the 317th Engineer Batallion’s Company C, regularly stationed at Camp Eschborn, Germany.
Flood attended Humbird high school. His wife, Marion, is with him in Germany.
