Miss Helen Thomas and Richard Gathje were united in marriage Sunday, July 10, 1949, at two o’clock in the afternoon, in a service performed by Rev. Walter W. Doering in the Grace Lutheran church, in Rochester, Minn.
Richard Holder, Black River Falls, a cousin of the bride, was soloist accompanied by Miss Carol Cray, a student nurse at Rochester. He sand “I’ll Walk Beside You” an “The Lord’s Prayer”.
The church was decorated for the occasion by baskets of white gladioli. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Mark Thomas, of Black River Falls, and the attendants were the bridegroom’s sister, Mrs. Edward Thomas of Black River Falls, and Charles Gathje, of Rochester, his brother. Sterling Mestad and Dean Day, friends of the bridegroom, were ushers.
The bride wore a white silk crepe dress, simple made, carried a bouquet of red roses and daisies and wore a halo of daisies in place of a hat. Her attendant wore a pale blue silk crepe dress, carried a bouquet of Talisman roses and daisies and wore a halo of daisies. The bridegroom and his attendant wore brown suits and white carnation boutonnieres. The mothers of the bride and bridegroom both wore black costumes and white carnation corsages.
Following the ceremony there was a reception at the Gathje home. After a short honeymoon trip Mr. and Mrs. Gathje will be at 324 Fourth Avenue, Northwest, Rochester, Minn.
The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Thomas, of this city. She graduated from high school her and from a nursing course in Rochester, also doing postgraduate work in the University of Colorado. Whe is at present working as Assistant Nursing Arts Instructor at the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, and will continue her work there. The bridegroom, a son of Mrs. John Gathje, of Rochester, is employed by the Rochester Dairy. Friends here wish them happiness.
The bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Thomas, brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Thomas, aunt, Mrs. F.E. Durrin, and cousin, Richard Holder, went from here to attend the wedding.
