Bessie Elizabeth Thompson was born in Old Irontown near Black River Falls, in Sept 10th, 1885, and passed away at the Krohn Clinic on Dec. 23, 1950, at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 13 days. Death was due to pernicious anemia and cancer of the lungs. Mrs Flood had not been well for the past year and in June she suffered a attack if virus pneumonia from which she never recovered. She again entered the Krohn clinic on Nov. 17th and failed rapidly, passing peacefully to her reward early Saturday morning.
She was the daughter of the late George Thompson and Julia Levis Thompson and spent her girlhood in the area of Black River Falls. On March 3, 1904, she was united in marriage to Wilfred Flood and they settled on a farm near Hatfield, later moving to a farm in Wrightsville. In 1933 they sold their farm and moved to Humbird where they built a service station and cabin court on the outskirts of the village. this business was sold in 1946 and they retired to a home in the village.
To this union were born three children; Gladys, Mrs Clarence Olson, Humbird; Grace, Mrs Robert Giloy, Neillsville; and Angus, of Humbird. She also leaves nine gradchildren to morn her death, and three sisters and three brothers. Her parents, one sister, Daisy Sander, and one brother, Barney Thompson, and one grandchild preceded her in death. Surviving sisters and brothers are: Frank Thompson, Portland, Ore.; George Thompson, Taylor; Harry Thompson, Black River Falls; Nellie, Mrs Harry Schoolcraft, Black River Falls; Rose, Mrs Oscar Sprague of Milwaukee; Mamie, Mrs Wm McDonald, of Wheeler, Oregon. She also leaves a number of nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
She was a devout Christian, a member of the Humbird Methodist Church and the Women's Society of Christian Services where she was a tireless worker as long as her health permitted. She was also chairman of the local Red Cross during World War II.
Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon, Dec 26th, with the Rev. Arthur Gausmann, of Independence, and Rev. Virgul Nulton, of Neillsville officiating. Rev. Nulton spoke of the more abundant life found in Christ and the rich reward of a Christian life both here and here-after. Burial was in the family lot in Riverside cemetery at Black River Falls.

Flood, Bessie (10 September - 23 December 1950)
Mrs. Wilfred C. Flood, 65, a resident of Humbird for the past 17 years, has been interred in the Riverside Cemetery at Black River Falls. She died on December 23 following a long illness. Death was due to cancer of the lung (line missing).
Mrs. Flood, nee Bessie Thompson, was born in old Irontown, near Black River Falls, September 10, 1885, the daughter of George and Julia Levis Thompson. Her girlhood was spent near Black River Falls, where her father was engaged in the lumbering business.
On March 3, 1904, she was united in marriage to Wilfred C. Flood at Winona, Minn. They settled on a little farm near Hatfield where the three children were born. Later they moved to a farm in the Wrightsville area, where they lived many years. In 1933 they sold their farm and bought a service station on the outskirts of Humbird. They later built a cabin court and a new station. This business was sold in 1946 and they retired to the village.
Mrs. Flood was an active member of the Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and also in other organizations.
Surviving are three children and her husband; the children living are Grace, Mrs. Robert Giloy of Neillsville, Gladys, Mrs. Clarence Olson of Humbird, and Angus of Humbird. Also surviving are three brothers, three sisters and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Humbird with the Rev. Virgil Nulton of Neillsville officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Grous- (balance of obit cut off.)
