DOUGLAS E. SECORD
Douglas E. Secord of Vanderhoef, British Columbia, a former Portland-area resident who operated logging and sawmill businesses in Oregon and Canada for many years, died May 26 in a Prince George, British Columbia, hospital of causes related to age. He was 88.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Rose City Cemetery . Burial was in the cemetery .
He was born July 7, 1903, in Green Bay, Wis. After moving to the Portland area in 1923, Mr. Secord operated the steam donkey at Rafton for a number of years before beginning his career in the logging and sawmill industry in 1943.
He operated in the Estacada, Corvallis, Sutherlin and Deadwood areas in Oregon and also had dealings in several cities in British Columbia. Mr. Secord had lived in Canada for a number of years.
Survivors include his stepdaughter, Maxine Miller Hoddle of Mountain View, Calif.; brother, Clyde W. McDonald of Spokane; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He married three times. His wives, Ina Williams Secord, Anna Hoyer Miller Secord and Marguerite Harris Smedley Secord, all died.
The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to the Omineca Lodge's extended care unit, 242 Louvain St., Vanderhoef, British Columbia, VOJ3A0.
