Can you imagine the result of teaching verb tenses with comics? No? Well, I strongly believe that this is by far the most efficient and amusing way for teaching this subject! Today at the first two hours I assisted my mentor, Zuzana Rosenbergova, on teaching the Present Simple and the Present Perfect Simple. I prepared a short presentation about both tenses using material from a website with creative and “kids-friendly” ideas! You can discover this innovative way of learning the tenses by clicking here. The pupils impressed by the interactive exercises and they liked a lot the whole procedure of learning with comics! At the next two hours I had to present myself and my country at two different classes. For this reason I made one “Personal identification worksheet” and one PowerPoint presentation about Greece.Personal identification worksheet: First slide: a table with three columns (first column for the numbers, the second for the details and the third for the answers), Details: name, age, birthday, gender, current address, home country, family names, hair color, eye color, hobbies and favorite food. Second slide: list of questions about describing people, Questions: What is your name, How old are you, when were you born, what is your address, where are you from, Do you have brothers/ sisters, What do you do in your free time, What color are your eyes, What are your hobbies, What is your favorite food. PowerPoint presentation about Greece:
Just three slides because you already know that a picture is worth a thousand words. So, for this presentation I used the highly recommended material of the EUBookshop, the bookshop of the European Union! I used some graphics from the publication entitled “United in Diversity!” (pages 8, 9, 19) as well as the poster “United in Diversity”.
After this presentation and after seeing a spot about Greece from the Greek National Tourism Organisation, pupils asked me about Greek Mythology and about National heroes of my country. I am sure that they enjoyed a lot our conversation about common things between Slovakia and Greece :D
