Fairy-tell me in English!

It is not surprising to me that one idea follows the other in my Assistantship. I count only 12 days here and I have participated in too many different projects and actions! This is easy to explain because in a School where creativity and open-minded people have the floor, many ideas come up and are implemented immediately without any problems. One of these ideas that put into action is the project “Fairy-tell me in English!” that was launched today! This project is the first innovative tool for e-learning for the School in which I am a Comenius Assistant and it is the result of a very good cooperation between me and my mentor, Zuzana Rosenbergova. This project is aiming to help pupils: - to learn or improve their English - to raise their awareness about European Union, environment, climate change, development aid, nutrition etc. - to further develop their skills in ICT - to catch their attention for reading books- to reduce theirs and School’s carbon footprint Bearing all of these in mind, we started designing this project with enthusiasm and passion. We tried to combine knowledge and game and we strongly believe that this combination is by far the best for pupils. We used only publications from the EUBookshop, because these publications are well-written, our pupils enjoy reading them and they have a European dimension on each and every issue. We divide the material into 5 categories (Let’s read, Let’s watch, Let’s listen, Vocabulary, Let’s play), we create the “e-class” category where all the exercises will be uploaded and we posted some useful websites for children with many quizzes, brochures and games on the European Union.

The project is still ongoing and we are developing it by taking into serious consideration our pupil’s feedback. Your feedback is valuable for us too and we are waiting for your comments or your ideas!

And what about the lessons today? We played a game in which pupils had to count animals in a Zoo, to tell theirs colors, to describe their favorite animal and to make short questions for some characteristics of animals (name, age, size). Other lessons were related to countable and uncountable nouns and the nutrition in which we used the EUBookshop's publication "The tasty bunch" and the website "Eat it, Drink it, Move it".
