After the activities for celebrating Europe Day and the educational programme “Let’s explore Europe!”, an employee of the European Commission visited our School in order to discuss with pupils and provide an up-to-date information about European Union and how it takes decisions! It was around 9:30 when Mr. Andrej Krchňavý, Information and Communication Agent at the Representation of the European Commission in the Slovak Rebuplic, came to our School with a big smile and many parcels of EUBookshop’s publications and gifts. He was interested to see the kites that pupils created on Europe Day and to learn more about the activities that took place on that big day. After a short meeting with the Headmaster, my mentor and me, Mr. Krchňavý was looking forward to meet the pupils and discuss with them about European Union and the EU Institutions. Among other topics, his presentation, which lasted from 10 till 12 o’clock, covered EU decisions-making process, poverty and starving, terrorism and climate change. As I saw from pupils’ reaction and from the fact that one question followed the other, his presentation was interesting, inpsiring and very useful for the pupils. Most of their questions were about the differences between the European Parliament and the European Commission, supporting poor countries, EU enlargement, relations between EU and Turkey. Many of pupils that participated in this discussion have visited a Comenius partner School in a very ecofriendly country: Finland. This is why they wanted to know more about sustainable energy and how the EU supports it. Definitely, I would say that Mr. Krchňavý’s visit was a meaningful one and lots of ideas and concrete arguments were exchanged about the future of European Union!
