Playing with the Greek alphabet!

Today I had the second lesson about Greek language and it was even better than the first! It’s easy to understand why… Because we played games with the Greek alphabet and had a great time! For these games I prepared 24 cards with two sides. On the first side there is the letter (capital and small) with a cartoon and the word in Greek. On the other side there is the word in Slovak, English and Greek. I think that these multilingual cards are very useful because the pupils can learn words in three languages at the same time. And what kind of games did we play with these cards? Ok, you have to follow the instructions and enjoy playing these two games…Game: Standing in the alphabet!1. you give one or two cards at every pupil2. you write on the board the letters of the alphabet in the right order (in alphabetical order)3. you ask from your pupils to stand up and take their position in an imaginary alphabet inside the classroom according to the letter of their card4. when the alphabet is completed and every pupil takes its position, you ask from each pupil to say loudly the word of the card in the three languagesGame: Let me present to you my letter1. you give one or two cards at every pupil2. you write on the board the letters of the alphabet in the right order (in alphabetical order)you ask from your pupils to stand up and present their letter by saying loudly the word of the card in the three languages

3. when the presentation of letters is completed, you ask from each pupil to say the word in the other two languages (for example if pupil’s mother tongue is Slovak, he/she must say the word in English and in Greek)

Except of these two amusing games, I assisted my mentor on her English lessons. The first one was about ever and never, the next one was about how to use the infinitive or the –ing form and the last one was about Present Simple. As for the last one, the pupils after seeing the animation “Help Ronaldo the Reindeer!” of the European Commission’s “Education corner about Energy” website, they answered at some questions (the questions are attached) that my mentor wrote. It was for once again a very innovative way of learning by playing and having fun ;)

Last but not least, pupils of one class prepared presentations about the food in Slovakia, Greece and Great Britain. Ingredients, recipes and nice photos of foods and products came once again in the classroom. Yes, the intercultural dialogue is keep going in this School! And I am very proud to be an Assistant in such a well-organized and unique School!
