After a very busy Easter, full of ideas about new projects till the end of my Comenius Assistantship, today I and my mentor launched a new project about a beautiful continent with a fascinating history, which has produced many of the world’s famous scientists, inventors, artists and composers, as well as popular entertainers and successful sports people: Europe! In the framework of the celebration of the Europe Day 2011 (9th of May) in the Primary School Dr. Janskeho c.2, from today and till the 6th of May we are going to inform all the pupils from all Grades about Europe and the European Union. For this reason I prepared a PowerPoint presentation using material from my favourite EUBookshop’s publication entitled “Let’s explore Europe!”. This book for children (roughly 9 to 12 years old) tells the story simply and clearly. Full of interesting facts and colourful illustrations, it gives a lively overview of Europe and explains briefly what the European Union is and how it works. Because our presentation about Europe should be strictly for 45 minutes, I chose only the following of book’s contents: A continent to discover (p. 3-5), Getting around (p. 6-7), Languages in Europe (p. 8-9), Climate and Nature (p. 10-12), A Journey through time (p. 19-27), Learning the lessons of history (p. 28-29), The Story of the European Union (p. 30-33), What the EU does (p. 34-35) and Peace-European flag (p. 36). I also added to this presentation the history of EU enlargement from 1951 till 2007.
More than 100 pupils were informed today at the last 3 hours of School’s timetable! Pretty well for the first day of this project! Isn’t it?
