Today except of the English lessons, I was invited by the Music teacher to present the Greek music to the pupils. My presentation consisted of two parts. On the first part, I gave some basic information about some Greek musical instruments (gaida, clarinet, guitar, bouzouki) and the pupils played an interactive game. They listened to the sounds of these instruments and they had to match these sounds with the correct instrument. It was not difficult at all because Slovaks play gaida, guitar and clarinet. So the sound of these musical instruments was very familiar for pupils. On the second part, which I could say that it was the most important, was the presentation in brief of the Greek music and the different kind of music that someone can find in Greece. Pupils listened songs from Crete, Macedonia, Islands, Pontus and Thrace. They also listened the typical Greek song which is called “Zeimbekiko” and a live song of Charoula Alexiou (“Teli teli teli”). At the end of this part, each pupil drew his/her favorite Greek musical instrument. I think that today’s activities were just the beginning of many future activities about Greek music! Stay tuned!
