I had spent hours and hours thinking of this day, my first day at School as a Comenius Assistant. I had so many questions on my mind: what to do, what not to do, how I could speak to the pupils, what kind of activities pupils like most, what do they enjoy during lesson and what if they get bored… And what happened today at school couldn’t be more satisfying! Having overcome the shyness with some warm smiles and a very brief presentation of my name, my origin country and my profession, the pupils are very interested in Greek culture and they would like to know more about the daily habits of Greeks! Indeed some of them had visited Greece during holidays with their parents. Well today, the first thing that pupils discovered about Greece was typical Greek foods and nutrition habits of the Greeks. Ingredients, recipes, products, put all together in a PowerPoint presentation and enhanced the interest of pupils. Many similarities were found during this presentation between Slovak and Greek people’s daily nutrition habits. At the end of the presentation, the pupils had the chance to taste typical Greek products, such as raisins, honey with sesame (pasteli) and caramels with ouzo. I think that the best one of these for the pupils was the raisins. Also, today completed with great success the first lesson about Greek language! I believe that it was successful because the pupils learned easily and quickly enough some basic phrases (Good morning, My name is…, I am from…, I am student, What are you doing, How are you, I am fine, Thank you) and start practicing the pronunciation of the Greek alphabet! Considering the difficulty of my mother tongue, I believe that the pupil’s efforts were astonishing! Many educative activities will follow as these lessons goes on, so stay tuned!
