IW 2017 - Testing

Testing In Nature and Design

Testing is a key activity in the systems engineering life cycle. Can we learn from nature in the in the area of testing?

This presentation is derived from a series of email interchanges among Natural Systems Working Group (NSWG) members on the topic of ‘testing in nature.’ Is there testing in nature? If so, can we identify and describe its characteristics? Are there analogies between testing in nature and the types of testing that we plan and perform as we conceive, develop, and use engineered systems? Are there things about how testing in nature is accomplished that can potentially influence the way engineering teams plan and accomplish testing?

These types of questions will be discussed using an informal panel presentation and discussion. Audience participation is encouraged.

Participants: Anway, Kerschman, McNamara, Pohlmann and Troncale
