INCOSE Natural Systems Working Group Community of Practice Webinar

Jamie Dwyer, a certified biomimicry professional with the Biomimicry 3.8 Institute (http://biomimicry.net).

Introduction to the INCOSE Natural Systems Working Group and then Jamie discussed the Biomimicry 3.8 Institute, its scope, system for applying biological inspiration to engineering challenges and highlight some examples of their work.

Jamie Dwyer, a Certified Biomimicry Professional, is a Biologist and Design Strategist for the Biomimicry 3.8 Institute. Jamie holds a Masters in Architecture (2006) and a B.A in Environmental Design(2004) from Montana State University as well as a B.A. in Environmental Biology from the University of Montana(1998). Her work is currently focused on facilitating biomimicry in the built environment and industrial design, helping designers integrate biology into any level of their designs from form, process to system. Her client involvement often includes finding biological strategies and patterns to solve design challenges and then helping designers innovate and emulate these strategies through biomimicry design charrettes. Jamie seeks to transform the design framework by empowering designers with the tools of biomimicry. Recently, Jamie has been working on built environment projects with BNIM, HOK, Lucchesi Galati Architects, and Terrapin Bright Green. Other client work includes Kimberly-Clark, Ingram Marine and Interface. Recently, Jamie presented and facilitated a full afternoon Genius of Place session for the 7th annual Biomimicry Education Summit and 1st Global Biomimicry Conference in June 2013. Earlier this year in May, she presented “Genius of Biome” at the 2013 Living Future Conference.
