Although the general practioner I had in Nieuwegein thought my previous general practioner was one in Maarssen, it wasn't. Maybe my medical file needs to be cleaned up, because I never lived in Maarssen and I have never been to the doctor there. But I have done other things in Maarssen that I would like to share.
In 2009 my former tennis doubles partner and I trained together around Utrecht for the **4 Daagse van Nijmegen. Maarssen was one of the cities on one of the routes. I remember walking along the Amsterdamsestraatweg, part of the Lage Weide industrial estate and being near a highway at the end of that hike. Both of us finished the 4 Daagse of Nijmegen in 2009. It was one of the two challenges we did together. The other one was tandem skydiving in Zeeland in 2008, where we both jumped out of a plane while hanging from a skydive instructor.
When I started Databeet my former STOGO Onderzoek + Advies colleague asked me to help her with Excel. I went to Maarssen to explain some Excel functions, met her husband and one of her two kids and had lunch with her and her husband. The organization she is now working for was looking for someone to create their Excel courses. Although it was tempting I didn't do it back then, because working for her company would have meant that I couldn't teach or create Excel courses for other organizations. I already had other Excel projects running.
My former STOGO Onderzoek + Advies colleague living in Maarssen sent a message that the mother of my other former STOGO Onderzoek + Advies colleague living in Culemborg had died after struggling with dementia. There was a vigil for her mother in Tilburg. We met in Bisonspoor Maarsen, went to the wake together and afterwards I was brought back to Bisonspoor.
In addition to being picked up to go to the wake of the mother of my former STOGO Onderzoek + Advies colleague, I also did fieldwork at the Maarssen station for IPSOS I&O. It is one of the stations with a supermarket nearby for lunch. It is an easily accessible station from Nieuwegein due to the direct public transport connection during the week until the evening rush hour. I worked at STOGO Onderzoek + Advies from 2007 - 2009. STOGO Onderzoek + Advies was bought by I&O Research in 2010 (IPSOS I&O).
*Hogeschool Economische Studies Amsterdam ( HES Amsterdam) merged in 2004. I graduated in the summer of 2004, before the merger.
**I walked the Nijmegen 4Daagse Marches in 2009. And in 2016 I saw the walkers walking through Cuijk, after I hiked the ***Camino Portugues and before I moved to Arnhem. I have never been to the 4Daagse feesten and I will not visit the 4Daagse feesten in the future. Never been a party animal and never will be.
***I hiked the camino to think about what I wanted further from life and Databeet, not to party like some do on the Camino. I talked while hiking with my fellow hikers, but did not party with them or others. I am not a party animal and liked the quietness and calmness of the camino.
