Just after I graduated for my master Urban Geography and finished working at E-Quality I started at Stogo Onderzoek + Advies in 2007. First at the 'bedrijfsverzamelgebouw' in Lombok where they had a few offices. After a while I was asked if I wanted to work as a researcher at ‘gemeente Rotterdam’ for a project there.
My first day back from the assignment in Rotterdam I went with a senior to Zeeland, The Netherlands for a project about waste. It was the way to get to know my colleagues by going with them to intakes for projects and ‘schouwen van bedrijventerreinen’. I was offered a permanent contract and the team grew, which let to Stogo Onderzoek + Advies moving to Nieuwegein. My third encounter with Nieuwegein. The first one was when I signed the contract for my studio in Zeist (1997) and the second one when I was answering e-mails for bol.com (2003/4).
In the new office I was responsible for most of the Excel, SPSS, surveys and the team of students and interns. The Excel was mostly about making beautiful graphs for the final reports and calculating with formulas. After a while I was allowed to hire a designer to do a makeover for the reports in ‘huisstijl’. This ‘huisstijl’ was in the same color as the office was decorated.
Most of the research I did there was about Economic Geography. I went on tour a lot to take pictures on ’bedrijventerreinen’ and see how they were (schouwen bedrijventerreinen). Another example of a research I did there was if Utrecht needed a watertaxi in the ’grachten’ that were going to be restored. For this research I interviewed tour boats owners and managers at cultural outings as the Stadsschouwburg Utrecht. Also a survey was conducted in a few parking garages and P+R Westraven.
Back then STOGO Onderzoek + Advies had lots of students helping during busy times and others doing their thesis with STOGO Onderzoek + Advies. For some of these projects data of KvK was used to conduct research on the moving of the entrepreneurs between 'bedrijventerreinen' and the categories in which they were entrepreneuring in.
Every lunch one person had to get the groceries for the lunch together. Even the boss had to go shop for lunch, when it was his turn. I co-organized a day out with the STOGO Onderzoek + Advies team in Amsterdam with a colleague. The day out consisted of:
a walking lecture on the developments in Amsterdam North
a fun tour
and a dinner show at Boom Chicago.
The last fun thing I want to mention is that I played tennis with a colleague in a marketing tennis tournament in Utrecht to network. I worked for STOGO Onderzoek + Advies from 2007 - 2009, 2,5 years.
