In the beginning 2017 I found on the net the Who Cares contest and contacted one of my former bosses if he would like to participate. He told me if I could form a good team, he would. I went on a mission and found a product designer and a psychologist. The four of us formed a team and competion was ferocious. Even big research companies and architects competited.
The city choosen by my team was Almere, out of the four possible cities. The assignment was to design a neigbourhood that would fit people during their whole life. So that even when they get older they could stay living in their homes and be active in their neighbourhood if they wanted that.
My team didn't win, but the contribution of my team was on the Who Cares website with all the other projects that competited. The ones who won in each of the four cities of the Who Cares competition can also be found on the same site. The winners were allowed to cary out their contribution that won in one of the four cities.
The Who Cares competition is about solving a big problem in society at the moment. The houses don't fit the need of the growing elderly living in them. This problem is not only a housing problem, but also a health problem. The elderly want to stay living in their neigborhood and perferable in their own house. This means the house needs adaptation, the neighborhood and the health care also to suit the demand. To make a plan the teams in the competition had to use data from a few life fields and combine them.
