In this blog I explain how to calculate with symbols and create a formula in Excel. Some of the calculation symbols for calculating in Excel are different from those used for calculating on paper.

The Calculation Tools

The calculation symbols used in Excel are:

• '=' --> When I start in a cell in Excel with this symbol, Excel knows I am going to calculate

• '+' --> When I use this symbol in Excel, Excel knows I am going to add

• '–' --> When I use this symbol in Excel, Excel knows I am going to subtract

• '*' --> When I use this symbol in Excel, Excel knows I am going to multiply

• '/' --> When I use this symbol in Excel, Excel knows that I am going to divide

These symbols are used in combination with numbers and the '=' sign in Excel to do math. 

Examples Of Calculation In Excel

To calculate 101 + 102, stand in cell A3. And put in the cell '= 101 + 102' and then I use Enter. After entering, the result is given in cell A3 (203) and in the formula bar the calculation.
