Singapore, the city state, is my stopover on my way to the Pacific! The people living in Singapore have a divers Asian ethnic background complimented with lots of expats. All those different groups have their own habitat where they live. But they all have one thing in common: food.
They always talk about what they ate, what they are going to eat, but strangely enough not what they are eating when they are eating. It’s THE small talk subject! The cabdrivers do it, but even in business the small talk starts about food. It’s something I have to get used to. To me it was funny having small talk before the interview about what I already ate in Singapore and what I have to taste before I leave! But I guess they would find small talk about the weather funny.
I must admit their obsession with food, isn’t so strange with all the food possibilities over there and the delicious taste of it all. I can almost eat all kinds of dishes from all over Asia. I thought I would have a hard time in some parts of Asia with me not eating rice, but there are so many food possibilities I saw and ate in Singapore without rice and most of the time everything is served separately. So I will be fine in Asia although I still don’t eat rice!
