Travel takes me out of every day’s repetitions. A small walk every day and I see different things than the day before. That is traveling in miniature. Traveling is feeling, tasting, smelling, hearing and seeing the unknown.
Traveling does that with me any time of the day when I am traveling. It is about letting go of my patterns. For example, if a bus is late or I decide to spontaneously enter a bookstore on the way to a museum. It is precisely those unplanned moments that bring me new things, such as a conversation with a stranger in the bookstore that I stop at.
What it brings me is life experience and learning to let go and let it happen. Enjoy the moment. I would like to integrate all this into my home life, but I keep falling back into old patterns after a while, after a trip. Which means I always need a new journey. Go on a journey and get acquainted with letting go, those unplanned visits and conversation with complete stranger. Enjoyment is the magic word when I travel. With COVID-19 in 2020 I finished the Pieterpad and even got inspiration at home, what I otherwise would have found exploring another country. But I still miss and will travel again!
