In 2014 I was introduced to the Buteyko Method. It was very basic. I had to train my breathing through a straw. I forgot all about this method of breathing till 2020. I was at a coaching camp for Databeet, when one of the coaches started talking about his new website about breathing. I asked if it was the same as the Buteyko Method and it was.
The breathing method has developed further, and I now sometimes use a tape to train my breathing. It is going better and better. I can hike now on nose breathing all the time. I also tried to take the stairs on nose breath. I made it with one mouth breath in the middle besides nose breath.
For me there are three benefits for using this breathing method:
It is comparable with (free)diving breathing. I am supposed to use less breath. In the future I may use less breath, when diving. It will make the diving instructors very happy and make my dives last longer
Another benefit is that I sometimes can sleep on nose breeding. It is difficult, but it helps against bad breath
The last benefit is a COVID-benefit I can use nose breath most of the time, when wearing those dreadful ‘mondkapjes’ and still wear glasses. The mondkapjes are dreadful, but I like my health better so I wear them.
