Smith, Craig T.

Associate Professor of Law and Director of Legal Writing, Vanderbilt University Law School. Professor Smith is a past president and board member of the Association of Legal Writing Directors (ALWD). He has taught at the Association of American Law Schools’ Workshop for Beginning Legal Writing Teachers, and he serves on the editorial board of Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Writing. He also has served on the editorial boards of the German Law Journal and Legal Writing and as Vice Chair of the Communication Skills Committee of the ABA Section on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar. Professor Smith previously worked as a clerk for U.S. District Judge James Carr, an associate at Pierce Atwood in Portland, Maine, and a Bosch Foundation Fellow with Germany's Federal Justice Ministry and various courts. He also taught at Pennsylvania State University's Dickinson School of Law and the Universities of Bonn and Potsdam in Germany. In addition to directing and teaching in Vanderbilt's Legal Writing Program, Professor Smith, who has published articles and translations regarding German law, teaches a course for international LL.M. students.
