Ciano, Leonardo (Aldo)

From Vancouver, British Columbia. Member of the British Columbia and Alberta Bars. Worked as a prosecutor and as an associate in a general practice in Alberta and British Columbia. Moved to Japan and was employed as in-house counsel for Kao Corporation in Tokyo. After three years of living and working like a Japanese salaryman, a career-changing opportunity presented itself. Taking a teaching position with the Faculty of Law at the University of Niigata in northern Japan, taught Anglo-American legal system and comparative law for three years. Then moved to Kyoto and, for the past dozen years, taught Anglo-American and private international law in Kyoto and Osaka. Presently teaching at Kansai Gaidai University and Kansai University Law School. Research interests include legal education, regulation of foreign lawyers and Japanese legal reforms.
