Cunningham, Cara

Professor, University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and Director, Degrees of the Americas Program, JD/LED Joint Degree Detroit, Michigan USA. Cara Cunningham has been at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law for ten years. She teaches International Law, Applied Legal Theory & Analysis, and Advanced Appellate Advocacy. In addition to teaching, Professor Cunningham serves as Director of JD/LED portion of the Degrees of the Americas Program between UDM and the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. Students completing this legal education program are awarded the American Juris Doctor from UDM and the Mexican Licenciado en Derecho from ITESM. Before becoming director, Professor Cunningham served as Assistant Dean of Academic Initiatives and was responsible for the implementation of UDM’s new curriculum. UDM’s approach to legal education is in part the cause of UDM being named by the prelaw Advisor Magazine in 2009 as one of the ten most innovative law schools in the United States. Professor Cunningham also is heavily involved in the School’s moot court program, which is ranked nationally in the United States. She coaches the UDM Jessup team and, in the past, has judged the Jessup World Rounds. In 2009, the UDM team competed at the Jessup World Rounds for the first time in School history and finished twenty-ninth of the more than 100 teams that competed. Professor Cunningham is delighted to attend this Global Legal Skills Conference and hopes her presentation will be enlightening.
