Haberstroh, John Michael

BA, University of California, Berkeley, MA, Penn State University, JD with Certificate in International Law, State University of New York, Buffalo. Northwestern University School of Law, Clinical Assistant Professor of Law. John is the Communication and Legal Reasoning faculty’s English as a Second Language Coordinator, and assists international students with the linguistic challenges of law school. Before arriving at the law school, John worked for over twenty years as an intensive academic English instructor and administrator, principally in Japan but also in the United States and Indonesia. In 2006 he created and developed the Legal English and Foundations program, a four-week, end-of-summer intensive English course for entering LLMs. John frequently presents at conferences on Legal English topics, and recently developed the LAW List, a list of 345 word families most frequently found in 1L textual discourse.
