Representing Noncitizens in the American Legal System

The American legal system is intimidating, complex and daunting for litigants and attorneys alike. However, when the persons attempting to access American courts are noncitizens, the issues are compounded in a myriad of ways that can make representation of noncitizens a particular challenge. From issues of immigration status, to language barriers, to questions regarding the rights of noncitizens in the United States to access the courts, attaining the appropriate level of cultural competence to represent noncitizens is just as important - if not more - as having the legal knowledge and skills to provide noncitizen clients with the legal representation they require.
