SOLFEGE using Cherokee Language Syllabary
Solfege (a.k.a. solfa) provides a framework for melodies by establishing recognizable relationships between pitches, and training your ear to hear patterns. It is an excellent system for learning the architecture behind music, and is a fundamental concept of ear training.
You can hear it on Youtube
PLUS! You can use this to learn a few Cherokee Syllabary symbols. Check out the files in the zip below!
This is a "mini booklet" that teaches the Solfege using Cherokee Characters.
(mini book: if you print it out and assemble it, it folds into a book)
{HINT: not all printers align the image the same way so fold by the paper edge, not the dashes and it works best)
We sing this to teach syllables and sight words; the song came from an old songbook in Cherokee and is supported in numerous other historical documents (including letters & correspondence!) that we researched.
If you want, you can sing the words to match the "sound of music"
Our version of the word list (found inside the "afreebie" zip file but not posted here) however, came from the old Levi Gritts Word list we were given by an elder who taught it to us.
We use it in teaching at our language seminars, but cannot post the recording online yet due to licensing costs.
Enjoy singing!
