This is kind of a fluff project, I buy cheap vinyl from thrift stores and students can paint whatever they want on them. The challenge is to deal with the surface, they could gesso it, they could sand it or paint straight onto it. Most of them have never started with the surface and worked up so a lot of students would paint grounds, or really work on their backgrounds before doing anything else. Which I guess is a good thing, it gets them in a new head-space. The results were about what I expected, I think they really liked the project, gave them some freedom, kind of cool and carefree.
