I now teach a little bit of measuring and sighting with my Design 2 kids, they do okay with it. It gets them in a mindset of accuracy and gives them proportion skills, if that's not a phrase it is now. I think noticing analyzing and accurately portraying proportions is an essential skill, whether its with a grid or through other observational drawing methods. It's just too good to pass up. And even though this skill doesn't directly translate to the grid, it indirectly influences their thought patterns and gets them in that mindset of accuracy matters, accuracy is achievable, I can do this if I choose to. They do a bit of basic proportions with a little worksheet I offer and they measure and sight a single photo, some of the good examples are below, there were quite a few this year.
