For this assignment students were supposed to explore one of three choices. Energetic tone started with a 50/50 graphite or charcoal wash, which was pecked away at by their media and an eraser. Multiple lines is exactly what you'd expect, you use more lines than necessary to create a damaged "historical" drawing. And no contours can take multiple forms, but it just means you should not have any kind of outlines. These assignments were the last of a series of assignments in which students explored mark making methods. The hope here was that students would finally embrace a crazier, more extreme mark making method. Some actually did very well with this assignment, I was thoroughly impressed by both classes.
