This page should be your first visit for any tech questions. We'll cover this the first week of classes and if you ever forget the basics, go here.
This class is designed to give you the basic understanding of graphics creation and the Adobe Illustrator.
This class is a continuation of Graphic Design year 1, students will further their technical skills in Illustrator and learn typography, layouts, and branding.
Students will learn how to create an accomplished body of work in the medium of digital photography. A variety of creative tools including Photoshop, their cameras, and the world outside the digital will be utilized.
Every yearbook brings with it a whole new set of challenges, each class of students have their own memories and moments to record. Help our school commemorate those times in a unique publication.
The objective of the course is to gain a working knowledge of the medium. This is a philosophically complex and yet entirely immediate medium. Discipline, research, and patience are required to acquire these skills.
It is recommended that you use your personal digital camera with Av, Tv, S, M, or P modes. It is recommended you have a smartphone. It is required that you sign up for a google account so that you can use google drive, this is free. You will use your student account as well for Office 365.
When you use classroom cameras, it is expected that you treat it with respect. If you willfully break a piece of equipment you are responsible for its replacement. If you accidentally break a piece of equipment then that is one less camera I must teach with, and no camera for you to use. Wear the strap around your neck or wrist always. Cameras can be checked out for outside of class time use by talking to Mr. Turek.
In addition to in class lectures which are mostly PowerPoint based, class will be run mostly in MS Teams, YouTube, and in the Adobe Desktop software. These platforms will be used to communicate assignments, hand in assignments, and use class materials. Adobe CC’s will also be used and explored fully. Do not use Google Docs to turn in slideshows or docs, Google Photos can be used to backup photos taken in class.
Save files with you name in the filename, then the name of the project. Each file should read LastnameFirstname_Projectname and then the extension at the end. Store all your files on your school I:// drive and OneDrive using your MS login. If you have any technical issues report them promptly, they are not an excuse for missed work. Always hand in work even if it is late.
Assignments are graded on a traditional 20-point scale using a rubric. Larger projects are worth higher point values. If you follow the basic criteria for the assignments and hand in properly completed work you’ll pass the class. Letter grades are awarded at 10% intervals %100 - %90 = A; %89 - 80 = B and so on.
When you walk through the door, this is what is expected of you. If you fail to follow these procedures, you will be subjected to an escalating scale of consequences.
Come to class on time- Be seated or working before the bell rings. If you are tardy get a late pass.
Report any damage immediately- If you notice graffiti or broken equipment tell me so you do not get blamed for a previous classmate’s damage.
Check the front of the class- As soon as you walk in the days agenda falls into two categories:
Projector on- sit and listen, take notes, and I'll explain what we're learning that day.
Projector off- this indicates a work day, you should know what to do and have a full day to complete it. Ask me a question if you are unsure, check Teams for instructions.
Technology is for learning- Keep your cell phone hidden, don’t be on social media sites, and stay on task. Phones can be used for photos and Teams.
Respect equipment- Checking out cameras and equipment is a privilege that you earn by taking and learning how to use the equipment in class. Do not abuse, break, or steal equipment.
Work, work, work- Work until the bell, do not stop early. Hand in late work and you will not be penalized, you earn credit for doing the work, its that simple.
Do your work
Don’t do anything immoral
Stupid actions lead to stupid consequences
The class will be monitored by VisionPro, the school firewall is in effect. DO NOT do any of this stuff, it is grounds for an escalating series of consequences that include suspension or expulsion.
NO depictions nudity or sexual or suggestive content, profanity, violence, or drugs. There are proper ways to discuss and depict these themes in art and they will be discussed in class.
DO NOT steal equipment or images, DO NOT damage or break equipment. copyright infringement is a crime. Damage or misuse of equipment is a crime.
DO NOT do anything immoral, hurtful, or inflammatory to any individual even in jest. You may think its funny but they might not, keep this safe and harassment free class.
If you are caught behaving in any way that is not in line with the expectations for the class you'll suffer the following disciplinary actions:
Verbal warning- The verbal warning may be simply, “please stop”. If I say anything assume I mean that the next time it will escalate.
Detention- I will ask you to serve a detention after school if I catch you misbehaving again. You will serve this detention in my classroom.
School or Saturday detention- I’ll send you somewhere else if you misbehave more.
Final detention, call home, behavior contract- This is your third and final detention, I will call home. You may have to write a small behavior contract with me.
Office referral- If I cannot figure out how to get you to stop what it is you are doing, I will write an office referral.
The discipline is simple, verbal warning, three escalating detentions, and then an office referral if we can’t work it out. If you want to build a relationship with me, we will build it according to your actions and your behavior. I believe that every student is inherently good, so do not test my ability to steer you right!
