Ahhh good ol' still life's... you're so essential, so boring, so easy, yet so freakin' hard for students to do well. I do two major still life setup's each year, one for a regular contour drawing, this post, and one for measuring and sighting. That second setup has less organic objects for obvious reasons, but the first setup is as grandiose as I can make it. The students have a hard time working through the thumbnails that I require of them, I'm pretty sure I'm responsible for killing the habit of making thumbnails within a majority of my student population. But none of them ever quite get that they can be fast. That's all I ever do for them is quick crappy thumbnails and for some reason they just want to sit there and do miniature masterpieces. Anyhew, the drawings were well made this year. This post is out of order, gesture drawings happen after this still life but I wanted to post this still life with Measuring and Sighting to show the difference in accuracy.
