SUMMER RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ENGLISH (Albert’s students)
Students in 1º ESO
Those students who failed in June will have an opportunity when we do the Entry Test in September. Therefore, once you have your individual report, you should revise very well all the lessons studied all along the year (mainly the first 6) and the other aspects learned. It is important to revise all the exams done along the year and we will try to find a textbook for those of you interested in revsing this summer. THE SEPTEMBER EXAM WILL BE SIMILAR TO THE SIMPLIFIED VERSION SET IN JUNE.
Those students who have passed are advised to do some activities to prevent summer language attrition during these holidays not only to keep everything we have learned, but also to be ready for 2º ESO:
- Revise what we have seen this year regarding the entry test. As you can see the textbook that we are going to have next year is Choices 2º ESO - Ed. Burlington. Have a look at the official list of textbooks for next year.
- Work with the compulsory readers for 2º ESO (also included in the list). You should listen to them and read them aloud to improve your pronunciation. If you read any other book of similar level, you can hand in a project or fill in the READER CONTROL SHEET you can find in Files, which will be taken into account for your final marks. You can borrow all the readers from a relative or a friend, or even from the school library. And you could also do the activities at the end of the book.
- For the writing skills I would advise you to make comments in my blog (I will send you an email with the corrections, as usual).
- It is important to read a lot about different topics to improve your understanding skill. You can use this Google site, my blog, other web links here included (for instance, newspapers in English), etc.
- In order to improve your listening skills, you’d better start watching films in English, listening to songs or doing listening exercises (remember there are some useful web links here where you can do listening exercises online and then get your corrections). YOU CAN ALSO WATCH SOME OF THE TV ENGLISH COURSES YOU HAVE GOT IN THIS SITE. I advise you to watch OLD THAT'S ENGLISH: Modules 1 & 2 and NEW THAT'S ENGLISH: Modules 1 & 2 + FOLLOW ME: first 20 episodes.
OUR DIGITAL PROJECT : Our digital project >>>> Next year we are going to keep on developing our digital project not only for our subject, but also for any other subject you may need it. How will we do it if you haven't a personal blog or a site?
FIRST STEP.- Create a Gmail or Google account.
SECOND STEP.- Have a look at different sites and blogs you know to search for the most suitable format for you.
THIRD STEP.- Think of a structure for your site and your blog.
FOURTH STEP.- It would also be very advisable to create an account in Dropbox. Just tell me and I'll send you an invitation.
FINAL STEP.- Try to insert some content and some gadgets such as Visit counter, but do not worry if you don't know how to do it because we will be doing this all along the year.
