TAS Trip—Shakespeare’s Macbeth
10/6 本校高中部 43名高一學生,由英文老師帶隊前往台北美國學校欣賞話劇演出 Shakespeare's Macbeth.
這是聖心第3次參與此活動,演出前, 國際英語班的James老師在課堂中先向學生介紹《馬克白》一劇,學生學習沙士比亞的文學手法、了解情節安排的脈絡、分析了著名的歌曲《Double, double toil and trouble.》。
演出以舞者的表演拉開序幕,美國學校的學生使用了莎士比亞的原話,但將場景的設置以類似現代台灣的方式做了轉化。
On October 6th, 43 grade 11 students, along with 2 teachers, traveled to Taipei American School (TAS) in Tianmu, Taipei to attend a student production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Sacred Heart (SH) students have attended similar activities at TAS before, but due to the Covid pandemic, this was our first trip back to TAS in 3 years.
Before the performance, SH students learned about the Macbeth play. They studied Shakespeare’s use of literary devices, completed a plot summary game, and analyzed the witches’ infamous song, ‘Double, double toil and trouble.’
TAS students used the original words of Shakespeare, but changed the setting to resemble modern day Taiwan. The show opened with a performance by TAS dancers.
表演結束後,該劇的導演奧斯汀·法威爾讓觀眾有機會向演員們提問、互動;布景及燈光師 Kevin Held 博士也為聖心學生提供了獨家後台訪問的機會,了解到製作該劇的許多特效。
在疫情期間,能成就這一趟參訪,我們都很高興,期望未來還有更多機會能與美國學校的學生互動、欣賞表演。
When the play finished, the play’s director Austin Farwell, gave the audience an opportunity to ask the cast questions. A number of SH asked very thoughtful questions about set design and character portrayals.
TAS Scenic & Lighting Designer, Dr. Kevin Held, gave SH students exclusive backstage access. SH students were able to enter the stage, while Dr. Held explained how the crew created many of the play’s special effects.
This excursion is a popular activity among SH students. They enjoy visiting the TAS campus, interacting with foreign students in an English environment, and experiencing a professionally produced play.
SH is thrilled that this important relationship with TAS is able to resume now that Covid rules have been relaxed, and we are excited to join more TAS performances again next year.
