Nathan Molby Assistant Principle of Keller Junior High

Here is one assistant principal who is not afraid to have a little fun at the expense of our

Keller Junior High students.

Welcome Mr. Molby to our 2018-19 school year. We are honored to have him as our assistant principal. Our Keller community thrives on getting to know each team member individually. More importantly, we like to learn about the certain attributes an administrator possesses that help contribute to our school atmosphere as a whole. Here's a little insight on the man who can truly take a pie to the face like a champion!

Tell us a bit about your background in education.

Molby: "I grew up in a family of educators. I taught jr. high and high school social studies in a couple different schools around Chicago. This is my fourth year being an assistant principal, but my first in District 54. I’ve also coached jr. high boys and girls basketball, track, and high school football."

What was your favorite subject as a student? Worst?

Molby: "Math. I loved how you always knew when you arrived at the right answer or when you needed to try again. I struggled in language arts early on, but came around in high school."

If you could go back and meet up with someone from your junior high years, who would it be and why?

Molby: "My principal, Mr. Becker. He was a larger-than-life character that cared for all his students. He had a booming voice that we loved, and he sang the National Anthem at Blackhawks games at the time. He passed away right after we graduated and he retired. Outside of school, Michael Jordan. I grew up when he was dominating the NBA."

Think about the teacher who had the biggest impact on you. What did they do that was so memorable?

Molby: "My high school band director, Mr. Riddle, turned music into a vehicle to open up my creativity. He didn’t accept social norms and connotations that go along with band and pushed me to think differently in my education, socially and professionally. He even came to my wedding and I keep in touch with him today."

Did you have any nicknames in school? How did you get them?

Molby: "Molbs. Just my shortened last name."

As the assistant principal, what is one goal you have this year for the Keller students?

Molby: "I’d love to see every one of our students form a meaningful relationship with both a classmate and a teacher. This needs to be something our students value as much as our staff already does."

Outside of school, what do you like to do in your spare time?

Molby: "I spend time with my wife and daughter, often riding bikes to Dairy Queen. We also spend a lot of time at the gym and with our friends we workout with."

What’s one place you have traveled to that everyone must visit?

Molby: "Alaska. It’s better in person."

We expect to see a lot more personality from Mr. Molby this year, as he has already shown how committed he is in seeing every student succeed to their fullest potential. We thank him for his time and effort as a leader in our building!
