Winter Blues

By: Shreya P.

The winter blues are sadly here. The snow, the cold weather, and the sleepy days are present. It’s the middle of the school year and we are all running out of energy. Sometimes students get overwhelmed and stressed out by the work given at school and the homework at home. Not to mention that students may have sports or after school activities that they need to attend. Throw dinner in the routine as well. School isn’t the easiest, especially with it being so cold outside. Winter isn’t the happiest of seasons but we still need to persevere!

Homework is really catching students off guard right now. It can be overwhelming and hard at times when we miss school because of snow days and extreme cold weather. The best way to get through it though is to just get it done. Keller students are in the mind frame that procrastination will simply pile up the workload. If it starts to climb up on them and the pile keeps growing, the Keller teachers are always here to help. At times, we’re able to ask them for an extra day or for guided help to get the work done. Keller students truly believe that the teachers want the best for them and to be successful. Another strategy to beat the tower of work is to time out the assignments. Students find that it is easiest to complete what is due first or what is easiest to tackle. They then work on what is due later on in the week or work that takes up a little bit more thinking and focus.

To beat the winter blues, Keller students do find time to get out of the house and have fun! They do this by hanging out with friends and going to the movies, ice skating, and having fun-filled days will laughter. That is the best way to get over the wall of gloominess. Keller students also like hanging out with people, such as their families. They can set up a family game night, go out for an extravagant dinner one day, or simply find a day where all they do is sit in pajamas and watch movies. Whatever it is, in honor of showcasing happiness, they find whatever it takes to throw some sparkle into their lives! Some of the best days of our lives consist of surrounding and filling our time with family and friends. Every Keller student can always add a little bit more sugar into that sweet sense of Wildcat pride.

Seventh Grade Got You Stressed?

By: Aditi S.

We’ve made it halfway through the school year. This is when we are more stressed than ever with homework and even after school activities. However, there is after school study on Tuesdays and Thursdays which is helpful.

Homework is probably not that fun, but it is beneficial because it's an important part of our education. Education is critical fact being that with the spring Measure for Academic Progress (MAP) test and Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) testing coming up, paying attention in school and doing your homework is most important.

We seventh graders are stressed with the amount of homework we get, rather than the amount we used to get in elementary school. Except you can't keep that as an excuse to not do your homework. Even though it is a lot tougher, you need to face the obstacles that we come across. Some of these challenges may include writing essays and having a lot of tests and quizzes on the same day. Seventh grade might be a little different, but it’s nothing new with consideration to homework and the number of assignments and projects we receive.

What you can do is maximize your homework time for each assignment you get assigned. For example, have a time limit to finish your homework but don't rush yourself with it. This may help with the time constraints or time management.

To sum it up, don't get stressed about the amount of work we have to do in order to be successful for seventh grade. Hope this helps!
