Keller Clubs

Rube Goldberg Engineering Team

By: Adina K.

Are you a person with a high interest for solving complicated problems, love to find new things, and strive on team work? Well, the Rube Goldberg club, led by seventh grade science teacher Mrs. Hoffman, is just the exact match for you! The club allows students to make a machine that can complete a simple task, but they use the complicated way to solve it. The overall concept started from a man named Rube Goldberg. He was an engineer, American cartoonist, sculptor, author, and inventor. Goldberg made cartoons about a contraption to complete a simple task by using a number of steps. Now it is the real life version of the cartoon. It is like a domino effect. Club members need at least ten steps or more to earn points. This year’s challenge is to put coins in a piggy bank. There are difficult steps so a person can just put one coin in that small piggy bank, so for the engineer lovers, this is for you! In District 54, a competition is held for students to get the medal for their school. Keller won second place last year. Rube Goldberg is a really great club for people who are interested in engineering and who have a vivid imagination. Good luck to all of our Keller Junior High engineers, we wish you the best!
