Imagine waking up in a place you don’t know of, with people you don’t remember seeing, in a place you don’t call to mind. Thomas, a sixteen-year-old with no background memory, is in this situation. When he arrives at a place that seemed like a farm, he meets new people that seem really strange and unfriendly to him, except for one, Chuck. He was the only one that always seemed to talk to Thomas no matter what. When Thomas realizes that he wants to be a runner, a sudden flip of events happen. A girl appears in the glade, something that has never happened there before, the same week as Thomas, strange because new people only appear once a month. When the girl gets there, Ben, a runner prior to Thomas’s existence, wakes up from the attack of a griever and strikes Thomas. From here, Alby, the leader of the gladers, decides to throw Ben to the cliff. One night, Newt and Thomas await Alby and Minho’s return from the maze; if they do not return soon, they will be trapped inside the maze and eventually be attacked by the grievers. Suddenly, Thomas sees a glimpse of his friends and dashes towards them, only to be trapped inside the maze. Minho and Thomas get rid of the grievers by making them fall in the hole, when they then notice that at one point of their descension...they disappear. This discovery leads to a whole new perspective of the maze and how to get out of it.
