Scratch Board

The subject of my creation is my dog when he was a puppy laying down outside. The world was made using pencil to grid the scratch board and scratchers to scratch the actual drawing. I creating this artwork using texture, with the hair and contrast with the different gray tones. I didn’t really compose it a certain way, as I used photo reference.

Some composition rules that are seen in my artwork are, informal balance because the dog is not in the direct center, and selective focus on the dog rather than the background. My project evolved because in the beginning I was going to try and copy the exact background but I changed it and just cross hatched the background instead.

The meaning behind this artwork is my dog when he was a puppy laying down and it reminds me of this time. This project relates to my life because it is my dog when we first got him. If I could change anything it would be to try and make the “gray” tones actually look gray.
