Pixel Portrait

The subject of my creation is a photo Katy Perry pixelated. The setting is Katy Perry modeling for covergirl. This work was made using the gridding method. I used graphite pencil to create the centimeter squares and oil pastel and tortillions to blend the colors within each square to create one color. I chose to create this specific artwork because there was a wide variety of colors within each square so it would be more colors to blend into one color and I thought it would look cool. I used color in this artwork and value because you had to match the amount of values within each square to match the amount of color in the original.

Some composition rules I used include, informal balance with the amount of color I put into each square. I also used emphasis to make it somewhat match the original photo. My image evolved because in the beginning I was struggling with blending the colors to be just one color and it was taking a long time however as it went on and I got the hang of it.

The meaning behind this artwork is it is unclear, however you can get the jist of what it is, just like how in life somethings are unclear however you can take that and then figure out most of what it is or the meaning of it. This image relates to my life because it is a picture of Katy Perry and I like her. If i was to do this project again I would make sure to erase my grid lines as I go because I didn’t and it doesn’t look as good.
