Beautiful Oops

Beautiful Oops Artist Statement:

The subject of my creation is a blind person in the water with his sunglasses on which were created out of the blob. There is also a bird flying next to the person which has a head that was made out of another blob.

The work was made using pencils to draw the initial parts of the image. I then colored everything in with colored pencil, as I colored I darkened some lines to make different parts stand out more. I also colored the body of the bird with a black pen so it would go with the head.

I chose this piece of artwork because the blobs on my paper looked like sunglasses and a bird head so I just drew the rest of it using those as the base of my drawing.

One composition rule I used was the way I positioned the facial features on the face, I had to angle them to the right of the face so it would look right with the sunglasses. I also put the sun on the right side of the paper because everything else was on the left and so it could provide some balance.

My project evolved because at first I just had the person on land however I then decided that it would look cool if he was in the water. After I also went over and darken the line that separates the water from the sky.

The story behind this artwork is that it is a guy that is blind. He enjoys doing many things that the average person would such as swimming. Due to him being blind he has a pet bird that guides him in the correct direction.

This related to my life because I’m not blind in sight however sometimes life has it’s blind sights and you have to learn or get help to move past them. I also love the water as does this guy.

I think that I could have spent some extra time working on the actual face to make it look more realistic. I also could have spent more time on making my water more realistic as well as separating my water and sky more noticeably.
