Linoleum prints

The subject of these four prints is a picture I took of a lake with the dock and mountains in it. The image was made by, taking this picture and carving it into a linoleum piece and then using ink to print it using one solid color, one mixed color, one with a different surface and one is manipulated I created 4 “perfect” prints. I chose to create this specific piece of art because I thought it would look cool on the linoleum and after being printed. I also thought it looked cool because you could mostly tell what it is but at the same time there are many ways to interpret it. I used color to create my prints and movement when carving into the linoleum.

I used selective focus when carving the linoleum board to make some areas stand out more than other on the actual prints. I also used informal balance on the linoleum because some areas had more carves made than other areas. As the project went on I carved more areas out to make the prints look better. I also re-printed a lot to make them perfect.

The story behind this artwork is basically a reminder of a really great week I had with my family. This relates to my life because it was a week that I spent with family and made a lot of good memories. I think that next time I will make my linoleum piece bigger next time so the prints will take up more of the paper.
