In this first assignment we were asked to create a coil pot and then carve some sort of design into it. The subject of my creation is a blue coil pot with lines that I carved all around it. The work was made using white clay, which I rolled into coils to make the initial pot. I then used a carving tool and carved the lines all through. After my pot was bisque fired I glazed it with a blue glaze and then fired it one last time .
When composing this work I used pattern and movement with the lines around the pot. I also used color with the glaze that I applied to the pot, and texture with the lines around the pot by making every other go in, and the rest stand out. Originally I had planned to only create a few lines throughout my pot however it seemed to boring so I chose to add more lines.
The meaning behind this piece of art work is that it has never ending lines all throughout it to symbolize the never ending use of the pot. This project relates to my life because I like the color blue and the pot is blue. I am proudest with how the initial pot came out, it was straight and had an equal thickness throughout it. One thing I would make stronger with this piece of art is the lines at the bottom because I pushed to hard and it made the lines/pot look messy.
