Reflection:

Coming into Foundations of Art this year, I was actually pretty excited. After the first class, I was no longer excited. I have never been naturally good at art or been forced to try very hard to be good until this year. In the beginning, everything was a bit overwhelming and it seemed like a lot of work, however as the year went on the workload seemed to get easier.

My top 3 favorite projects that I created this year were my linoleum prints, my mixed media, and my scratchboard. I enjoyed these projects because I liked the way that they turned out and I enjoyed using images that I took on my own because it added more meaning to the work. I also feel that I liked these so much because they are my strongest pieces, and actually look more realistic than some of my other art pieces.

My two least favorite projects that we did this year was wire sculpture and linear perspective. I did not enjoy the wire sculpture because it hurt my hands and was just really difficult to shape the wire into what I wanted. I did not like doing the linear perspective because for some reason I had a really hard time with it, most likely because it involves math and I’m not particularly good at it. However, despite the fact that I did not enjoy creating the linear perspective mine did not come out that bad. Unfortunately my wire sculpture did not turn out very good, however, I did learn what I would do differently next time.

Looking back on this year I am really happy that I decided to take Foundations of Art. In the beginning, I thought this was going to be a long year, but I ended up learning so much. Not only did I learn art techniques like the gridding method that I found very useful, but I also learn how important your work ethic is, after taking this class I hope that I have learned my lesson with procrastination. I also have gained a lot of confidence with my art over this year, in the beginning, I thought I was really bad, however now I am able to say that I have improved and that some of my artwork is good.

In the end, I looked forward to coming to this class each day, because of it way more fun than all of the other boring classes I had. This will go down as one of my favorite classes I have taken.
